# Nova Relay

Relay keeps one pinned live message, or a daily post, summing up what the team announced and what people discussed across your Discord and Telegram public channels. Community PRO.

**Relay** keeps your members up to date on what happened while they were away. Nova reads your community's public channels, on Discord and Telegram together, and writes a few short lines: what the team announced and what people talked about. Relay is a **Community PRO** feature.

You choose how it shows up:

| Mode | What members see |
| --- | --- |
| **Live message** *(default)* | **One** pinned message that Nova edits in place every few hours, like a small dashboard of what's happening. Nothing new is posted, so nobody gets pinged by it. |
| **Daily post** | A new recap once a day, pinned in place of yesterday's. |

## What it looks like

> **While you were away**
>
> **📣 From the team**\
> • Season 2 starts Monday, and your Season 1 points carry over. `#announcements`
>
> **💬 What people talked about**\
> • The new leaderboard was the talk of the day; a few people want a weekly view too. `#general`\
> • Wallet sign-in on mobile tripped a few people up; opening the page in the wallet's own browser fixed it. _on Telegram_
>
> _Last 24h: 48 people · 312 messages · busiest in #general · Updated 2 hours ago · next in 4 hours_

Each line says what happened, not just that something did, and points to the channel or topic where it happened, so members can tap through. The same topic discussed in several channels, or on both platforms, is one line. If your community runs its own bot ([Nova Soul](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/soul.md)), Relay posts as that bot.

**Live message.** Nova rewrites the lines only when enough new was said since the last update. Otherwise it keeps them and refreshes the counts and the "updated" time. A quiet stretch costs nothing. Lines older than the period the message covers are taken off. If someone deletes the message, Nova posts a new one at the next update.

**Daily post.** On a quiet day nothing is posted and the last recap stays pinned.

## Make it yours

Every setting can be changed by asking Nova or on the **Relay** card in the [Community Settings dashboard](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/settings-dashboard.md). In live mode, a change shows on the message right away.

| Setting | Choices |
| --- | --- |
| **Updates every** *(live)* | 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 *(default)*, 12 or 24 hours, starting from the time you pick |
| **Covers the last** *(live)* | 12 hours, 24 hours *(default)*, 48 hours or 7 days |
| **Where** | Up to 3 places. Discord: text or announcement channels, threads, or a forum (live only: Nova opens one post there and keeps it updated). Telegram: the group or forum topics |
| **Voice** | Friendly *(default)*, short and plain, or neutral reporter |
| **Lines** | 3 to 8 *(default 5)* |
| **Unanswered questions** | Left out *(default)*, in their own "Can you help?" section, or mixed in |
| **Layout** | Sections *(default)*, one list, or headlines (a short bold topic before each line) |
| **Title** | "While you were away" *(default)*, "What's new in *your community*", "📡 Relay", or your own |
| **Emoji** | One per section *(default)*, one per line, or none |
| **Where it happened** | A tappable channel or topic next to each line *(default)*, or hidden |
| **Footer** | People first *(default)*, the classic stats line, or none |
| **Discord format** | Card *(default)*, embed, or plain message |
| **Telegram** | Lines shown *(default)*, or collapsed behind a tap to keep the pinned message short |
| **Accent stripe** *(Discord)* | Any color, or none |
| **Language** | The language most messages use *(default)*, or one you pick |

_"@Nova make the recap update every 3 hours and cover the last 48h"_ · _"@Nova make the recap shorter and write it in Italian"_ · _"@Nova put the live recap in the #news forum"_ · _"@Nova switch Relay to a daily post at 18:00 Rome time"_

## What Relay reads, and what it never does

| | |
| --- | --- |
| **Reads** | Every channel, thread and forum topic that **all members can already see** |
| **Never reads** | Private and staff channels, private threads, age-restricted channels, DMs, other communities |
| **Never writes** | Member names, mentions, links, price predictions or calls to buy |
| **Leaves out** | Messages deleted by a moderator, by [Guardian](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/guardian.md) or by their author, and any channel you exclude |

Only a message from an admin or moderator can become team news, so a member posting a fake giveaway does not end up pinned as an announcement.

> [!NOTE]
> **Servers where members need a role to see channels.** If `@everyone` sees nothing in your Discord server, tell Nova which role every member has: _"@Nova the member role for the recap is @Verified"_. Relay then reads the channels that role can see. A role with moderation or admin permissions is refused, so staff channels stay out.

## Set it up

1. As an admin, in the channel (Discord) or topic (Telegram forum) where the message should live:
   > _"@Nova keep a live recap of the community pinned here"_

The live message goes up right away with a short "nothing yet" note, and fills in at the first update with enough to say. Relay starts reading when you turn it on.
2. Post it in more places, or leave a channel out:
   > _"@Nova also keep the recap in #general"_ · _"@Nova don't read #off-topic for the recap"_
3. Have both platforms? Turn Relay on in your Discord server **and** your Telegram group. Both show the same recap, covering both. To keep one platform to itself: _"@Nova don't merge the recap with Telegram"_.
4. Need it now: _"@Nova update the recap now"_ (2 a day). In live mode, an update that finds nothing new enough to rewrite does not use one.
5. Check on it any time with _"@Nova is Relay on?"_: it lists the mode, what is read, where it posts, a link to the live message, and anything to fix.

Turning Relay off deletes what it was holding and takes the live message down.

> [!NOTE]
> **Permissions.** Discord: Nova needs *View Channel*, *Send Messages* (*Send Messages in Threads* for a thread, *Create Posts* for a forum) and *Pin Messages* (*Manage Messages* on older servers); *Embed Links* for the embed format. Telegram: make Nova an admin with the *Pin messages* right. Without the pin permission the message still posts, and Nova tells you it could not pin it. Nova never pins a forum post: a forum has one pinned post, and it is yours.
