# Nova Harbor

Harbor welcomes every new member with your template or an AI-personal message, link buttons and raid protection. Community PRO adds first-message welcomes, DM follow-ups, auto-roles, goodbyes and milestones.

**Nova Harbor** welcomes every new member of your Discord server or Telegram group automatically — with your own message or an AI-personal one, link buttons, and (on Community PRO) a full onboarding flow: first-message welcomes, DM series, auto-roles, role buttons, goodbyes, optional ban-hammer messages and milestone celebrations.

## What a welcome looks like

You write the template; Nova fills it in for each newcomer:

> 👋 Welcome to **{community}**, {user}! Start in #introductions and grab your roles below — you're member #{member_count}.

| Placeholder | Becomes |
| --- | --- |
| `{user}` | A mention of the new member (a ping on Discord, a tappable name on Telegram) |
| `{name}` | Their name, without a ping |
| `{community}` | Your server / group name |
| `{member_count}` | Current member count |
| `{date}` | Today's date |

If your template never names the member, Nova adds the mention in front. On Discord the welcome can be a **rich card** (their avatar, your accent color, "Member #1,234"); on Telegram it's a formatted message (`**bold**`, `__italic__`, `[links](https://…)`). Link buttons (rules, website, start-here) sit underneath.

**Opportunities button.** Turn on "Find opportunities for me" and the welcome gets a button that opens the member's own [Nova Scout](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/scout.md) setup: bounties, grants and hackathons matching their skills, sent to their DMs. If your community runs its own bot, the button sends them to the main Nova bot.

**AI-personal welcomes.** Turn them on and Nova rewrites your template into a fresh, warm welcome for each newcomer while keeping its key info. When the daily AI allowance or your plan's AI budget runs out, Nova simply posts your template — nobody is ever left un-welcomed.

## Built for busy rooms

| Situation | What Harbor does |
| --- | --- |
| Several people join within a few seconds | **One** combined welcome ("Welcome Ann, Bo and Cy!") — the window is adjustable |
| A join raid (dozens of accounts per minute) | Welcomes **pause for 10 minutes**; no roles or DMs go to raid accounts |
| Someone leaves and rejoins | Not re-welcomed within the cooldown you pick (default 30 days) |
| A channel full of old welcomes | **Auto-delete** after N minutes, or **keep only the latest** |
| Telegram "X joined / X left" clutter | Optionally deleted automatically |
| Discord Rules Screening | The welcome waits until the member accepts your rules |

## Free vs Community PRO

| | Free | Community PRO |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Welcome templates | 1 | Up to 10, rotated, with per-template stats |
| Link buttons | 2 | 6 |
| "Find opportunities for me" button | ✓ | ✓ |
| AI-personal welcomes | 10 / day | 300 / day + your style instructions |
| Welcome language | Same as your template | The member's own language (auto) or a fixed one |
| When to welcome | On join | On join **or** at their first message |
| DM welcome + up to 3 follow-up DMs | — | ✓ |
| Auto-roles + self-assign role buttons (Discord) | — | ✓ (up to 5 each) |
| Goodbye messages | — | ✓ up to 10 rotating lines, for members who leave on their own |
| Ban messages ("the ban hammer has spoken") | — | ✓ optional, up to 10 rotating lines or Nova's built-in jokes |
| Member milestones ("we just hit 1,000!") | — | ✓ (when a [Flares](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/flares.md) member rule is on, Flares posts the milestone instead, once) |
| Stats | Joins, welcomed | + activation rate (members who post within 7 days), A/B per template, DM delivery |

**First-message mode** (PRO) waits until a newcomer first speaks and replies to that message — ideal for large groups where most joiners never talk.

## Set it up

1. As an admin, in the channel (Discord) or topic (Telegram forum) where welcomes should appear, say:
   > _"@Nova turn on welcomes"_
2. Customize by talking to Nova — e.g. _"@Nova set the welcome message to: Welcome {user}! Read #rules first 🚀"_ — or from the **Nova Harbor** card in the [Community Settings dashboard](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/settings-dashboard.md), which shows a **live preview** as you type.
3. Check it: _"@Nova test the welcome"_ posts a labelled test that deletes itself after ~2 minutes and lists anything that's misconfigured (missing permissions, a role above Nova's, etc.).
4. See how it's going: _"@Nova how many people joined this month?"_

> [!WARNING]
> **Permissions.** Discord: Nova needs *Send Messages* + *Embed Links* in the welcome channel, and *Manage Roles* (with its role **above** the ones it assigns) for auto-roles and role buttons. Telegram: make Nova an **admin** — large groups hide "joined" messages from bots, so admin rights are what make join detection reliable (add *Delete messages* if you want notices cleaned up).

> [!NOTE]
> **Telegram DMs.** Telegram only lets a bot message people who have started it, or who asked to join through a **join-request** invite link — those requesters get your DM welcome before they're even approved. On Discord, members with closed DMs are skipped.
